Overview
As the Best Bid for the Athletes, San Francisco 2012 has designed a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable Olympic Village that will cater to every need of the 2012 Olympians and Paralympians and leave a much-needed legacy of over 2,500 units of new transit-accessible housing for the people of the San Francisco Bay Area after the Games.
The Olympic Village at Moffett Field sits at the heart of the Ring of Gold, with 92% of all competition sites within 32 miles, and over half within 16 miles (exceeding IOC guidelines). The Olympic Village will be located adjacent to the International Broadcast Center and just a few minutes from Stanford Olympic Park-site of Opening & Closing Ceremonies, Athletics, Swimming and more. With unique Village features like the California Plazas, the Athlete Family Reception Area and nightly Olympian entertainment-improvements in our Village plan suggested through interviews with hundreds of Olympians-San Francisco 2012's Olympic Village reflects our athlete-driven, athlete-centered bid.
A unique partnership of Bay Area developers, planners, sustainable design experts, environmentalists, affordable housing developers and elected and government leaders have come together to create the Olympic Village plan and provide a model of sustainability-and athlete convenience-for the Bay Area and the Olympic Movement.
