The San Francisco Bay Area offers the best competitive conditions for the 2012 Olympic Games. With its clean water, gentle hills and abundant sunshine, the Bay Area is a natural amphitheater upon which to stage the grand Olympic pageant.

The Bay Area also has a proven track record for supporting sports. The region is home to eight major professional sport teams and six NCAA Division 1 colleges. Over the years, the San Francisco Bay Area has successfully hosted such premier sporting events as the 1985 Super Bowl, the 1994 men's and 1999 women's soccer World Cups, the 1998 golf U.S. Open, the 2000 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials, NCAA Basketball Men's and Women's Regional Finals, World Series, U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and the Major League Baseball, National Hockey League and Major League Soccer All-Star games.

Of the facilities required to host an Olympics, 80 percent of BASOC's proposed venues already exist. The remaining new construction will create a legacy of world-class facilities for the Bay Area to enjoy including: an Olympic Village, world-class equestrian facility, sailing center, whitewater course, tennis center, velodrome, shooting facility and improvements to Stanford Stadium.
