Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere

BASOC is pleased to have participated with the USOC since 2007 in the FLAME program.

On June 7th, 2008, BASOC and the United States Olympic Committee hosted a community event titled "Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere," (F.L.A.M.E.), at the University of San Francisco campus. High school minority student athletes from the Bay Area who were nominated by their Athletic Directors attended this event, where they were able to meet other student athletes, engage in activities aimed at developing networking skills, learn about the history of the Olympic Games and its governing bodies, and hear from prominent leaders in the sports world.

"The goal of the program is to inspire these student athletes to achieve their maximum potential, not only in their sporting endeavors, but in all aspects of their lives," said Kristin Kasper Glickman, BASOC Board member and Community Partner Liaison.

Participants were quoted as saying they found the program "Fun, inspirational, motivational, and exciting."

BASOC is honored to have been chosen as host for this fantastic event and is pleased to be making a difference in the lives of some of the Bay Area's youth.
