Jim Wunderman, Providian Financial

Jim Wunderman is Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs of Providian Financial Corporation.

Wunderman joined Providian in September 1997 and is responsible for managing the Company's Community Relations, Charitable Giving, and State and Local Government Affairs Programs.

Prior to joining Providian, Wunderman operated his own consulting company, The Wunderman Group, which provided client services including public affairs, political campaigning, and marketing. Major clients included the San Francisco 49ers, Deloitte and Touche LLP, United Way of Santa Clara County, Telecare Corporation, and Heitman Retail Properties.

From 1992 through 1995, Wunderman served as Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff in the administration of San Francisco Mayor Frank M. Jordan. In this capacity, he served as chief advisor to the Mayor on all policy, administrative, and political matters. He oversaw the operations of all city departments and was responsible for annually balancing San Francisco's $3 billion budget during a particularly challenging economic period. Wunderman served as the Mayor's Office lead negotiator with the City's labor unions and, in a role as mediator, helped negotiate a quick and successful conclusion to San Francisco's newspaper strike of 1994.

From 1988 through 1991, Wunderman served as Vice President and General Manager for two of Norcal's largest operating collection and disposal companies. Before joining Norcal, Wunderman served from 1984 to 1988 as Special Assistant to San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein. He was responsible for overseeing the fiscal, policy, and operations activities of several city departments. He also served as liaison to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, managed numerous special projects for the mayor, and played a key role preparing the City for the 1984 Democratic National Convention.

Wunderman graduated with honors from San Francisco State University, majoring in Political Science. He also holds an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree (Summa Cum Laude) from Kingsborough College of the City University of New York, where he majored in Business Administration.
