Pablo Morales has been described as an exceptionally talented athlete, driven by an incredible work ethic. He held the world record in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 52.84 seconds, which stood from 1986 to 1995. The winningest swimmer in collegiate history, Morales captured a record 11 individual NCAA championships in a four-year career before graduating in 1987 from Stanford University. He led the Stanford team he led to three consecutive NCAA titles from 1985-87.
In 1988, Morales, although the current world record holder, failed by 1/100ths of a second to make the Olympic team. A year later, he enrolled in Cornell Law School, and after completing two years, was given permission to postpone his final year, in order to pursue another dream.
Following a grueling six-month comeback training regime, Morales not only won the 100-meter butterfly at the 1992 Olympic Trials, but also won the support of swimming fans throughout the United States. His incredible return to swimming was completed with a moving performance that earned him the individual Olympic Gold medal which had eluded him for so long.
He has since graduated from Cornell Law School and is making his mark as a motivational speaker, regularly addressing Olympic sponsors and corporations across the country.
From the fall of 1998 to 2001, Morales was the head coach of the San Jose State University women's swim team. In the summer of 2001, Morales moved to Nebraska to become the Head Coach for the Women's Swimming/Diving at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
