Gregory Massialas participated on the 1980, 1984 and 1988 U.S. Olympic Fencing Teams, serving as Captain of the 1984 fifth-place Foil team. Massialas was an All-American at Cornell University, but throughout high school he excelled at a wide range of other sports as well. He was a high school All-American in water polo in 1974 but gave up that sport to pursue fencing.
Massialas' specialization was a success and he fought his way to the Junior National Fencing Championships in 1974 and 1975. Though his Olympic competition days were over, he participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games as a referee and officiated at the World Championships from 1989-1997. He is currently a member of the U.S. Fencing Association Officials Commission and the Northern California Olympians.
