J. Cleve Livingston first made his mark as a member of the Harvard University Crew Team. The team was undefeated in both 1967 and 1968, winning the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and All-Ivy League Honors. In 1969, he captained the Harvard crew, again winning the ECACs and All Ivy Honors.
Livingston was a member of the 1967-69 and 1972 U.S. Rowing Teams, winning a Gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games. He was a two-time Olympian, winning a Silver medal at the 1972 Olympic Games and finishing sixth at the Games in 1968. Livingston was inducted into the Harvard Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his accomplishments.
He is currently a member of the Sacramento Sports Commission and the Chair of the Sacramento Regional Sports Education Foundation, the local organizing committee for the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Team Track and Field Trials. From 1985 through 1992 he was a member of the U.S. Men's Olympic Rowing Committee (MORC) Board of Directors. He also presently serves on the USTA Norcal Junior Tennis Council.
