As Individual Director of the Federation of Gay Games, Derek Liecty is spending his retirement keeping busy. His affiliation with the Gay Games began in 1989 as a founding member. Since the inception of the Gay Games, Liecty holds positions on the Board of Directors, Outreach Committee, Sports Committee, Site Selection Committee, Communications Committee, Archives and Education Sub-Committee, Administrator and License Agreement Administrator.
While attending Stanford University, he was voted Captain and Most Valuable Player of his soccer team and is currently an inductee of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Liecty was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in Geography from Stanford University in 1954. From 1954-1956, Liecty enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Austria and Germany. He received his BFT from the American Institute for Foreign Trade (Glendale, AZ) in 1958.
