Alan Elias, Providian Financial

Alan Elias is Vice President, Corporate Communications, for Providian Financial Corporation, one of the fastest-growing financial services companies in the United States.

Elias joined Providian in January 2000, and is responsible for all internal and external communications, including directing the company's public relations activities.

Elias has more than 20 years of communications experience both as a public relations executive and a journalist, with a proven track record in image enhancement, crisis communications, and media relations.

Prior to joining Providian, Mr. Elias worked for more than 10 years at Hill and Knowlton, one of the world's largest public relations/public affairs agencies. He was responsible for leading its' media relations, crisis communications, media
training, and litigation support practices in the company's Los Angeles, Irvine, and Sacramento offices. He was a member of the agency's international crisis response team and was involved in a number of high-profile crises, including serving as a lead member of the crisis team working on behalf of the International Olympic Committee following the Salt Lake City scandal.

Prior to Hill and Knowlton, Elias worked for 10 years as a broadcast journalist, serving as a news reporter and news anchor for the NBC Radio Network in San Francisco, KGO Radio in San Francisco, KICU Television in San Jose, and KFI Radio in Los Angeles, among others.

Elias currently serves as a board member of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC), working to bring the Olympic Games to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012. He also sits on the Public Communications Committee of the American Financial Services Association (AFSA), working to
develop and coordinate both media relations and consumer education initiatives with other members of the financial services community.

Elias received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
