Marlene Bjornsrud, General Manager of the San Jose CyberRays, brings more than 20 years of experience in athletic administration to her job with the new professional women's soccer team. Bjornsrud was responsible for assembling the CyberRays' staff and overseeing all business affairs including venue selection, marketing and braodcasting negotiations. The CyberRays responded by winning the inaugural WUSA Championships.
Bjornsrud came to the WUSA after three years as Assistant Director of Athletics for Santa Clara University, where she was in charge of soccer, baseball, softball, crew , tennis and golf. She also supervised the department's marketing and media relations offices. During her Santa Clara tenure, both men's and women's soccer teams achieved No. 1 rankings in national polls and advanced to the NCAA final fours.
Previous to Santa Clara University, Bjornrud was assistant athletic director and senior women's administrator at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. She began her sports career in 1979 as Grand Canyon's women's tennis coach and was NAIA national coach of the year in 1981.
