Matt Biondi, Olympian

Matt Biondi is recognized as one of the fastest human beings in the water. Holding 11 Olympic medals, he is tied with Mark Spitz as the most decorated U.S. Olympian in history. Biondi won his first Olympic Gold Medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and fulfilled ambitious goals for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. When the competition ended, he had earned seven medals (more than any athlete in any sport), including five Gold. He also set four world records. The 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona was a memorable finish to Biondi's phenomenal Olympic career. He captured four gold medals and one silver medal.

Now retired from competitive swimming, the dedication and devotion Biondi displayed in the pool is apparent in his love for marine mammals. In support of the Humane Society, for whom he was a national spokesman, Biondi wrote Congress from Seoul to strengthen the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

He has also worked on public relations campaigns with the Humane Society, promoting consumer awareness and dolphin-safe tuna. He is a co-founder of the Delphys Foundation‚ which is dedicated to promoting the protection of marine mammals worldwide. He has completed several video projects featuring dolphins in the wild interacting with proficient human swimmers. Biondi also works with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation in underwater video production.
