Dear Friend:
Since the earliest days of our Bid to bring the 2012 Olympic Games to the San Francisco Bay Area, the Board of Directors and staff of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC) have been committed to producing a Bid that provides the best competitive conditions for the athletes, subscribes to the highest ethical standards and leaves the greatest legacy for American sport.
As we enter the final six weeks of our efforts to be the U.S. Candidate for the 2012 Olympic Games, I want to thank you for your incredible support these past three years and in the weeks – and hopefully years – ahead. I'd also like to take a moment to remind everyone of the rules governing communication and conduct with the USOC Board of Director in this final phase:
- Verbal promotion/communications with members of the USOC Board of Directors before the November 1 – 3 Board of Directors meeting is prohibited. Specifically, one on one meetings, phone calls, or discussions are prohibited.
- No written or e-mail communication between BASOC Board of Director members, staff, Olympians or volunteers and USOC Board Members is allowed, unless approved by the USOC.
- The USOC has also emphasized the prohibition against 'third party' communications with USOC Board Members about our Bid. 'Third parties' include all supporters and volunteers of our Bid, regardless of whether they have a formal or even informal relationship with BASOC.

It's a great honor to compete for the right to represent the United States in our common quest to return the Olympic Games to America in 2012. We're thrilled to see the tremendous – and growing – enthusiasm among Bay Area residents, leaders and Olympians for our Bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. In these final weeks before the U.S. Candidate City election, let us recommit ourselves to providing the best Bid for the athletes, to adhering to the letter and spirit of the highest ethical standards and to leaving the greatest legacy in history for America's amateur athletes through the San Francisco Bay Area Olympic Games in 2012.
