Meteorological and Environmental Conditions

Overview
There are few metropolitan areas in the world with more beautiful topography than the San Francisco Bay Area, and few that enjoy better summer weather. The stunning combination of climate and geography found here exists in few if any other places on earth.

The Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee worked with Jan Null from the Golden Gate Weather Service to document the record of the Bay Area's weather and environmental conditions for the past thirty years during the specific weeks, July 27 – August 12, that the Olympic Games will take place.

What will the environmental conditions be during the 2012 Olympic Games?
The San Francisco Bay Area's stable, dry climate and predictable, moderate temperatures virtually guarantee the best possible competitive conditions for athletes and enjoyable viewing and recreational experiences for spectators. Because the chance of precipitation during the 2012 Olympic Games is statistically nil, adverse weather will not be a factor.

What about the heat index (HI) as it relates to athletes?
More important than a region's average temperature or air humidity is the Heat Index , a measurement that relates to the body's ability to cool itself through perspiration. San Francisco's afternoon Heat Index for the period proposed for the Olympic Games is 76, one of the lowest in the nation and the world for middle latitudes.
