Football Hosts Rally to Boost San Francisco Bay Area's 2012 Olympic Games Bid

SJSU Game will become "Bay Area Rally for 2012 - Make a Difference" as Bay Area Leaders, Residents Gather to Support 2012 Bid on October 26th

October 14th, 2002— San Jose State University and the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC) are teaming up for the "Bay Area Rally for 2012 - Make a Difference," a major event in support of the San Francisco Bay Area's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. The event will be held on Saturday, October 26th beginning at noon at Spartan Stadium, and will include the first-place San Jose State football team hosting Boise State University in a key Western Athletic Conference game.

With the Rally taking place just one week before the United States Olympic Committee's (USOC) selection of the 2012 U.S. candidate city, all Bay Area residents can make a difference by filling the stands and sending a clear message to the USOC Board of Directors that the Bay Area supports the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games and welcomes the world in 2012. A special halftime ceremony will celebrate the Bay Area's 2012 Olympic Bid.

Bay Area Olympians will be at Spartan Stadium for pre-game festivities and a halftime show. Prior to the game, Olympians will be conducting free clinics in a variety of Olympic sports including soccer, gymnastics, fencing and judo. An autograph signing area and hospitality tent will provide opportunities to meet and greet many past, present and future Olympians. Jump houses and a homecoming parade are just some of the other activities for fans of all ages. The Bay Area Rally for 2012 - Make a Difference will demonstrate Bay Area residents' enthusiasm and commitment to hosting the 2012 Olympic Games.

"San Jose State University is proud to host the Bay Area Rally for 2012 - Make a Difference. As an institution for higher learning, we share the mission of the Olympic Games to build a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play," said Chuck Bell San Jose State University director of athletics.

"We're thrilled by the overwhelming community support and enthusiasm for our bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games," said Anne Cribbs, President & CEO of BASOC and a 1960 Olympian. "The Bay Area Rally for 2012 - Make a Difference will be a unique opportunity for the people of the South Bay and the entire region to send a message to the USOC that the Bay Area wants and welcomes the 2012 Olympic Games.
